The Alpinum Schatzalp botanical garden is run by the Berghotel Schatzalp and is therefore private.
The main flowering period is between the end of June and September, with flowering phases changing every two weeks. The gardens are open from June to October, depending on the weather.
The facility covers approximately 5 hectares and a collection of over 5000 species and varieties of different plants from all over the world. This is maintained and looked after by a team of highly qualified gardeners.
The Alpinum Schatzalp is a founding member of the Association of Swiss Botanical Gardens (Hortus Botanicus Helveticus) and takes the three main tasks of a botanical garden very seriously.
These are:
Species conservation and species collection
teaching the population
Local recreation
So that we can carry out these tasks in the best possible way, we ask you to treat the plants and beds with respect.
So don’t enter the beds, touch signs or pick plants. Enjoy one of the largest alpine gardens in Switzerland.

Tuesdays 10.20 a.m.: Guided tour in the Guggerbachtal Alpinum CHF 15.00
Wednesdays 3:20 p.m.: Guided tour of the historic Alpinum CHF 10.00
Thursdays 5.30 p.m.: Botany in a glass, changing tastings and information about absinthe and gin, the plants, the myth and the production CHF 42.-
Fridays 3.50 p.m.: Guided tour of the culinary herbs with aperitif and herbal snacks CHF 30.-
At the entrance area: Kitchen herb garden; Summer flowers; Insectivores
On the south side of the hotel, free of charge: Art Nouveau garden; historical Alpinum; Big Five Garden; Herb exhibition
Outdoor area, free of charge: Slope beds; wet meadows; Thomas Mann Square
Northwest of the hotel, for a fee**: Guggerbachtal Alpinum
