The Guggerbachtal Alpinum

The Guggerbachtal-Alpinum was founded in 1968 after an avalanche created space to build another garden on the Schatzalp site.
The wildly romantic Guggerbachtal offers thanks to its location, up to almost 2000 meters above sea level
given geological and microclimatic conditions, an enormous number of locations and
habitats, for plants from all mountain zones on our planet. The garden lies on the border of the
montane level with transitions to the subalpine level. It is through the construction of special stone structures
possible to cultivate also plants from the higher levels in nature, the alpine and nival levels.

The approximately two hectare garden is divided into 20 different areas. The
typical occuring plant communities, such as the blue grass heap (Seslerion) are integrated in the garden
to be preserved and promoted.
The focus of plant use is on wildforms and less on cultivated forms.
However, in individual collections we sometimes contrast wild species with cultivated plants,
or show the range of possibilities, as for example with the gentian and edelweiss collections.
From the beginning particularly beautiful horticultural selections were also shown in the Guggerbachtal.
Another avalanche in winter 2018 made it possible to expand the beds, which are now being built
and growing are.
